The ASD SSG Product Definition and Analysis interoperability working group is working on a recommendation related to the complementary use of STEP and JT ISO standards for visualisation, exchange and long-term archiving of 3D product data.

Here after an Airbus Group contribution to this activity:  "STEP-JT standards comparison for CAD 3D interoperability".

The objective of the “Product Definition and Analysis interoperability” working group is to specify A&D industry needs in terms of exchange; sharing and archiving of product definition and analysis data, and to drive the development of solutions and enabling standards.

The 5 year vision of the ASD SSG “Product Definition and Analysis interoperability” working group is based on four principles:

  • Interoperability is ensured by the availability of use cases, ISO information model, recommended practices and PLM vendors interoperability testing.
  • Interoperability is based on the availability, use and maintenance of reliable ISO Information models.
  • The ASD SSG “Product Definition and Analysis interoperability WG supports the development and use of the NAS / EN 9300 standard for  Long Term Archiving and Retrieval of Aerospace digital product data, such as CAD, PDM, Simulation, …
  • The efficiency through the time for the European A&D industries of Product Definition interoperability solutions requires the governance and consistency of the different PLM interoperability standards and recommended practices.

The ASD SSG “Product Definition and Analysis interoperability” WG is organised in different activities, represented in the following figure.

This WG activities are supported by standardization activities: AIA – ASD Stan LOTAR, ISO TC184/SC 4, ...

Teleconferences are organized regularly, per specific working groups:

  • To share information regarding the different standardisation projects.
  • To describe / review the ASD SSG use cases.
  • To consolidate a common level of information as the prerequisite of a common ASD SSG recommendation for interoperability.

The WG will prepare presentations for formal review and recommendations at the ASD SSG workshops.
